GOD IS OUR REFUGE & STRENGTH, IN HIM WE WILL FIND COMFORT & PEACE!
In the midst of such a terrible tragedy, such as April 16 at VA Tech and September 11 at the Twin Towers in New York, our hearts cry out to the families of the victims. We feel the loss, the pain and hurt suffered by these innocent victims, and we turn instantly to Prayer.
Our hearts cry out to God in the midst of all this, “God, where are you in the darkness?” We search for answers, sometimes there are none, but answers can be found in God’s Word. In Psalm 10, David cries out to God, “Why do You stand afar off?” “Why do You hide in times of trouble?” (Psalm 10:1 NKJV) Yesterday we asked, “God, where were You?” “Why did You not protect our children?”
The better question would be, not “where is God,” but rather, “God why did you allow this to happen?” David answers that question in the same psalm. “You have seen, You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your Hand.” (Psalm 10:14 NKJV) Remember, God is Still on His Throne! God is Still in Control! He is with us, even in the midst of tragedy.
We are living in a wicked and troublesome time. Just like in the days of Noah, when the “wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was on evil continually.” (Genesis 6:6 NKJV) Paul describes it best, “But know this, that in the last days, perilous (troublesome) times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. (2 Timothy 3:1-4 NKJV) Truly, we are living in the last days.
But we also find comfort in God’s Word. Romans 8:28 says, “We know that in All things, God works for good.” (paraphrased) All Things are Not Good, as evidenced yesterday, but God works in All Things to bring Good out of a bad situation. What the Devil meant for Bad, God can make something Good out of it. “Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us, “(Romans 8:37 NKJV) and Died for us. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the Love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
