Volume 47 Number 9               September 2014

From the Pastor’s Desk!

40 Days of Prayer!

Our Mission - Saved by His Grace, Seeking His Face & Serving for His Glory. Most of us are Saved by God's Grace, its certainly Not by anything that we have done, or didn't do. We are constantly Seeking His Face in our Worship & in our daily Relationship with Him. But, are we Serving Him, Serving for His Glory, not ours?
We are Called to Serve the Lord. God calls us to be Saved, Saved by His Grace. God calls us to be Separated from the world, Consecrated - set apart for the Master's use. God calls us to be Saints, the Bride of Christ, without spot or blemish. God also calls us to be Sent Forth; one who is sent forth to proclaim the Gospel.
As you Serve the Lord, Pray, "Make Me a Servant". There 6 different Greek words in the NT for servant. The most common are diakonos, meaning waiter, or deacon, & oiketes, a house servant. Servants are hired to work for wages, they can quit, if they dont like the work, or just walk away. A Servant can serve anyone, because no one owns him. Servants get their reward from Wages paid, or Job well-done. Servants willingly place themselves under the Master.
Would You Rather be a Slave of Jesus Christ, not just His Servant? The Greek word for slave is doulos, used 130 times in the NT, translated as servant 120 times, but only translated once as slave. Let me share some Characteristics of a Slave - Exclusive Ownership, only 1 Master, bought with a price. Constant Availability - when the Master calls, the slave answers, whenever, wherever He calls. Complete Obedience to the Master, Yes, Lord! Subject to 1 Will, the Masters, not mine, cannot serve 2 masters. Total Dependence on the Master for everything, my All in All. All Discipline and/or Reward come from the Master, well-done, good & faithful, or depart from me. As a Slave, your Single Reason for Living is to Please the Master.
Are you Serving the Lord as a Servant or Slave? Servants quit, walk away, but for Slaves, Jesus is Everything. He's your Reason for Living, He owns you & you owe Him everything. Is Jesus Lord of ALL?

    Carol's Notes

On a recent Wednesday morning I awoke to find Bill sitting in his recliner looking like the weight of the world was on his shoulders. When I asked why he looked so troubled, he told me he had lost his arrowhead, a precious find from his childhood. He found it when he was a boy about 8 years old while digging in the dirt under a cliff in what is now the Big South Fork National Park. Having had it all these years (nearly 80) and knowing it could be hundreds of years old, he was devastated by its loss. Years ago he had taken it to a jeweler and had it suspended from a chain so that he could wear it. The arrowhead must have become detached from what held it to the chain and a precious treasure was now lost.
As soon as Bill left the house, I began searching a few places he might have missed. I just knew I would find it caught in his clothes so I searched through the dirty laundry. I searched several other places it might have been hiding but it was nowhere to be found.
As I left the house that morning I whispered a prayer asking God to put that arrowhead in plain sight so that one of us could find it.
Fast forward with me to later that same afternoon. I came home from the Church and had hardly come through the door when Bill proudly announced that he found the arrowhead under the carport where I usually park my car. He was amazed that I had not run over it. Bill parks the mower at the back of the carport and he happened to remember that he had checked to be sure the mower was securely covered with so much rain in the forecast. When he retraced his steps, he found his precious treasure.
Lost but found! Reminds me of the parables in Luke where we learn about the search for the one lost sheep; the one lost coin and the watchful father rejoicing over the return of his lost (prodigal) son. In each case there was great rejoicing when what had been lost was found. Trust me, there was great rejoicing in our house when Bills treasure was found. That lost arrowhead served as a beautiful reminder of what must happen in heaven when a lost soul has found salvation in Jesus Christ. What beautiful words John Newton wrote "once was lost but now am found".
As we begin a new church year and continue to face the challenge of being a vital, active church in meeting the needs of our community, I'm reminded of the words to a song by Matthew West. He reminds us that we are "salt of the earth, city on a hill" and "we can't change the world by standing still." Let's join our abilities and talents in beautiful harmony as we continue our efforts to "bring them in" - no longer lost but found!
Have a spectacular September and, as always....KEEP SINGING!

"40 Days of Prayer"
2 Chronicles 7:14

We are Continuing our 40 Days of Prayer during August & September. God is Speaking to us, He is Doing something at Trinity, but in order to determine what He is calling us to do, Continue to Pray for:
Trinity Baptist Church - ask God to "Do whatever it Takes, to make Trinity the Church He wants it to be."
We will see God Working in Our Midst! God is working around us, whether we see Him or Not. You cannot Stay where you are & Go with God!
God's Presence & Power - Ask God to move in a Mighty Way at Trinity; break hearts, change lives, we want to see Him.
God to Reveal Himself in a real & personal way. Your Relationship with God is more important than anything else in Life.
We will Accept God's Invitation to get Involved with Him. God is in the Saving Business, He invites us to join Him in His Kingdom work.
We will Know & Do the Will of God. We Need to Know & Do Gods Will; to Trust & Obey, because He is Able!
We will Hear God Speak to us. The Closeness of your Relationship determines the Volume of His Voice.
God to Help us through our Crisis of Belief. God's Invitation to join Him leads to a Crisis of Belief that requires both Faith & Action.
We will Adjust our Lives to God. Adjusting your Life to God requires Total Surrender & Total Dependence on Him.
We will Experience God in All His Majesty and Power as we Know Him, Obey Him, let Him Work through us & Worship Him together.

"If My people, who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and Pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14) "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you." (Matt 7:7) "You have not, because you ask not. You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss." (James 4:2-3)

September Mission Emphasis

Your giving through the Cooperative Program supports ministries like these!

September 7: Louis Spears - Mesa, Arizona
Today we focus on the dry desert area of Mesa, Arizona, where one of our North American missionaries is working to bring the living water of Jesus Christ. Louis Spears works with the 50 churches of the Valley Rim Southern Baptist Association in the Mesa area. One of his main ministries is to reach into the many trailer parks and apartment complexes and share the gospel. He witnesses, starts Bible studies and spends a lot of time every day talking with people about Jesus Christ. We pray for our missionary Louis as he serves in Arizona.

September 14: Woman's Missionary - South Asia
One of our missionaries serves in a country in South Asia where she reaches out to women in the red light district. She hands out small gifts to the women, which often leads to a conversation about salvation in Jesus Christ. One night she shared the gospel with more than 250 women. Today we want to pray for this brave missionary who serves in a very dangerous location. Although we do not know her name, our Lord most certainly does.

September 21: Manuel Chacon - Roca Eterna, Dale City, VA
Under the leadership of Church Planter/Pastor Manuel Chacon, Roca Eterna began by meeting in homes with the intention of honoring Jesus; sharing His love & the Gospel; & making disciples who would, in turn, make disciples. They were fruitful in their work & the church began to grow. As the church grew, so did Manuel's vision for the larger Hispanic community around them. To reach people with the Gospel, he began to build a biblical strategy to identify workers for the harvest from his congregation & equip them for the work of evangelism & church planting. As he began to put his strategy into place, the conviction that churches plant churches - one of the most effective ways to reach the lost - became part of the church's mission. In the past five years, Roca Eterna has sent out & partnered with four church plants in Northern Virginia & one more in North Carolina. This is what a church planting center is about, just like in the Book of Acts reaching lost people with the Gospel, making disciples & starting new churches. Today we pray for Manuel Chacon & Roca Eterna to continue to reach the lost & persevere in the work the Loard has given them.

September 28: Joseph & Amy Velarde - Allentown, Pennsylvania
Even chicken sandwiches can help share the gospel! That's what two of our missionaries in eastern Pennsylvania have learned. Joseph and Amy Velarde started Riverbend Community Church in Allentown in 2009 because there are very few evangelical churches of any kind in this area. Sometimes the Velardes take sandwiches to local businesses and construction projects so they can meet people and talk about Jesus Christ. Today we pray for this young couple who are working hard to introduce the light of the gospel in a very dark place.
