Pastor's Pen - Carol's Notes - Numbers - Upcoming Events - Pantry

The Pastor’s Pen!!!

From time to time, people stop by the house trying to sell you the latest & greatest or sharing their gospel with you.  Most of them are sincere, but they can be sincerely wrong.  They may have their facts wrong, or their beliefs may be distorted, but they are sincere, & sincerely wrong.  Sincerity does Not Save!  Sometimes, we need the Assurance of Salvation, we need to Know for Certain.

In Acts chapter 10, Peter shares the Gospel with Cornelius.  Cornelius was a proselyte, a Roman who converted to the Jewish beliefs.  Cornelius was devout, sincere, in his beliefs & worship, but being sincere did not save him.  Only when Peter shared the Word of God with Cornelius was he truly Saved.  A Sincere Cornelius could be Certain, Jesus is “the Way, the Truth & the Life.”

Although Peter limited the Gospel to the Jews, or those who converted to Judaism, he did tell Cornelius that “whoever believes in Him” shall be saved.  Paul took the Gospel to the entire known world in the 1st century, because he believed that God is not willing that Any should perish, but All come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)  Cornelius could be Certain that Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be Saved. (Rom 10:13)

Peter also shared with Cornelius he would “receive forgiveness of sins.”  It’s just-as if-I’d never sinned.  All his Sins, Gone at last, Gone by Grace, he could be Certain of that, because Jesus paid the price at Calvary.  All his sins were washed away.

Sincerity doesn’t Save, only Jesus Saves.  Are You Certain?

Carol's Notes

After a recent meeting with some of his fishing buddies, Bill came home all excited about a website he learned of that is watching a mother eagle and her three eggs.  He could hardly wait for me to see her.  Just a few days ago Broken had lunch together then we came back to the church and gathered around Carolyn’s computer to check on the eagle.  We saw her turn her eggs then nestle back down to keep them warm as she rearranged some of the new greenery that had been brought to the nest.  In about 38 days the eaglets will emerge from their shells.  Both the mother and father eagle (who mate for life and use the same nest for life) will feed the babies and in about 45 days they can weigh nearly 40 times their birth weight.  At about three months old, the eaglets grow special feathers for flying.  Shortly after these feathers appear, the mother eagle will fly into the nest and begin thrashing around causing such commotion that one of the eaglets will fall from the nest and head straight for the earth below.  The baby does a lot of flapping around and just before it hits the ground the mother swoops down and with her powerful wings brings the baby safely back to the nest.  After several such trials, the eaglet will learn to fly.

Did you know this routine is mentioned in Deuteronomy 32:10-11?  Moses reminds the children of Israel how God cared for them and guarded them “just as the eagle stirs up the nest and hovers over its young.”  In Exodus 19:4, God says He will “carry the children of Israel on eagles’ wings.”  What lessons we can learn from this majestic creation of God.  From helpless eaglet to soaring eagle--isn’t that the journey we experience as we walk our Christian journey with the Lord?

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the concert by Beckon Call on March 20th.  I hope this will only be the beginning of more concerts to come to our church this year.  Spread the word, make your plans to attend and bring someone with you, and give as generously as you can to the love offering that will be taken.

News Update!  My son, Michael, and his family are safely home in Martinsburg!  Granddaughter Morgan and LBHS lost in regionals which ended her senior basketball season with a record of 21-5.

Everyone have a marvelous March and Keep Singing!

Beckon Call - Ministry in Music, Song & Testimony - http://members.cox.net/waldronm/index.html

Beckon Call began as a ministry in June 2003 with a purpose of sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ through song.  The group’s members are Mark Waldron, Mike Perdue, Tim Hall and Dwayne Angle.  These four men are determined to live for God and bring an uplifting message through the talents with which they have been blessed.  Beckon Call sings an average of two weekends each month so that they can also attend their respective churches with their families.  The group plays their own music using a variety of styles including old favorites as well as newer songs that appeal to all ages.

Many people inquire as to how we came up with the name of “Beckon Call”.  In the book of Acts in several different chapters the word “beckon” is used in a couple of different forms when the prophets were calling the people to listen to the message of Christ.  Our sole desire is to be another voice that proclaims the message of Jesus Christ, and to be a blessing to those that hear the message in the songs we sing and the testimonies we share.

Come out & Enjoy the Message of Christ this group brings.

You will be Blessed!
