40 Days of Prayer!

Merry Christmas! Christmas is the time we celebrate the Birth of our Lord & Savior. Jesus is the Reason for the Season. 2,000 years ago, the angel Gabriel appeared to a young woman named Mary to announce the Birth of the Messiah. God was working according to His plan; Mary Discovered something about God that day. Gabriel told Mary that she would bear a son, fulfilling the 1,000 year-old prophecy of Isaiah, "a virgin shall conceive & bear a Son, & call His name Emmanuel." Mary may not have understood the full meaning of the angels message; but Mary Discovered:
Gods Plans are Eternal. Mary had her own plans; she would marry & raise a family. But Gabriel told her she had found favor with God & she would bear a child who would be the Son of God. Marys Son would be the King, even greater than David, & would reign forever. God works on a Forever basis.
Gods Promises are Unfailing. Mary knew the Prophecies about the Promises of the Messiah; He would be born of a Virgin (Isaiah 7:14), He would be the Mighty God & rule Davids Throne (Isa 9:6), He would be Born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2), but centuries passed & there was no fulfillment of Gods Promises, there was no Promised Messiah. Gabriel told Mary she would be the Mother of the Messiah. God Promised & Hes Never Failed!
Gods Power is Unlimited. Mary is Perplexed; "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" God had proven His Power with Elizabeth; (remember Abraham & Sarah) Nothing is Impossible with God! The Holy Spirit would do Gods Work, it would be impossible for us, but not for God. God Can Do Anything!
Mary, Did you Know that your baby boy was God? Yes, Mary Knew!

    Carol's Notes

By the time we turn the calendar to December, the choir has been working on the Christmas music for weeks. With most of the difficult work behind us, that leaves me only one large musical task how to get all our favorite carols sung during our December worship services. Its impossible to think of Christmas worship without "Silent Night", "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing" or "Joy to the World."
In a recent message by David Jeremiah from the book of Revelation, he made reference to "Joy to the World" and the basis of the lyrics. His comments made me think about how many times I've sung that hymn at Christmas and just mindlessly repeated the words I've known for years. In reality there is so much more. Do you know the story behind this beloved hymn? Heres what I discovered.
Isaac Watts, the writer of this hymn, is commonly called "The Father of Hymns." His most well-known hymns still sung today include "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", "At the Cross" and "Joy to the World." Watts was a young man when hymns other than the Psalms were allowed to be sung in the Church of England. Though he still based many of his songs on the Psalms, his desire was to write hymns based on the "Christian experience."
"Joy to the World" was written in 1719 and based on Psalm 98 (take a minute to read it). If you notice the lyrics to this carol, there is no mention of shepherds, the manger, wise men, angels or any other symbol we associate with Christmas. The reason for that is because Watts did not write it to be a Christmas song. The second coming of the Lord was the original theme.
It is not certain when or why this hymn became associated with the Christmas season. We can definitely read the familiar words and apply them to Christ coming as a baby in Bethlehem. Surely we must "prepare Him room" in our hearts and lives. As we sing this beloved carol this Christmas season, give special attention to the words. The "Lord is come" and we should celebrate His birth! Lets also remember the reason He came to save the world and He is coming again. On that day surely all of "heaven and nature" will sing and celebrate.
Another beloved hymn of Christmas, "The First Noel", is the theme of our cantata this year. Invite your friends and neighbors to come celebrate our Savior's birth as we musically tell the greatest of all love stories.
I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and hope you will enjoy special time with friends and family. Don't forget to keep Jesus at the center of your celebration.
Have a delightful and delicious December and remember....KEEP SINGING!

Why Jesus is Better Than Santa Claus

Santa lives at the North Pole.
     JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh.
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year.
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies.
     JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited.
JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart when invited.
You have to wait in line to see Santa.
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap.
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?"
JESUS knew our name before we were born. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly.
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO.
JESUS offers Health, Help and Hope.
Santa says "You better not cry."
JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you."
Santa's little helpers make toys.
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but,
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree,
JESUS became our gift and died on a tree...the Cross.
We need to put Christ back in CHRISTmas, Jesus is still the reason for the season.
Lord Jesus, Please forgive me for being so grumpy as I trudge through the never-ending tasks set before me this holiday season. My to-do list seems to keep growing with shopping, church services, and family gatherings and I'm running short of time! Restore the Joy of Christmas to my heart. And help me to relax each day and make time for YOU - my one true Source of Joy. Amen

Last month we introduced a mission project to collect money to help ... "the people run out of their villages by ISIS,in the 6 campsin Turkey. First project idea to help the survivors who have fled to Turkey: ... a tent that will help one family survive the (harsh and upcoming) winter is $500. All proceeds will go directly to the tent purchase, transportation and set up (no overhead costs thrown in). We've been told we'll get a picture of the family for whom you purchased the tent. How's that for an awesome picture to put on your fridge? The Yazidis in Turkey are saying over and over "We will talk to you/trust you if you are Christian." The long term plan is to later set up one tent where truth is shared, folks are prayed for, needs are met. So, short term is get through the winter, long term is share the hope we have within us."
Trinity started collecting money for this project in November. Our goal was to get enough for at least one tent. But...we should NEVER limit God. We have almost enough for THREE tents!! We have collected $1,365 to date!! If you want to give towards this mission project, please designate your donation for "Refugees in Turkey." Trinity will see that your donations get to the church in Turkey or if you prefer to send your donation, call Trinity at (540-586-8010) for the address.
Thank You!
