“Seeking Him, Serving Him”

Volume 49 Number 8              August 2016

Pastor's Pen - Carol's Notes - Events - Pantry

From the Pastor’s Desk!

I have been preaching a sermon series on “I Believe”. I Believe the Bible is the Word of God. I believe Jesus is the Son of God who Died on the Cross to Save me from my Sins. I Believe Jesus is Coming Back to take me to Heaven, a place God has prepared for us to live with Him forever. On Sunday nights we have looking at the Signs that His Return & the Rapture of the Church is Imminent. But Don’t Believe me, Believe the Bible!
The Signs of the Times are happening around us. We live in an Age of Deception; False Prophets, False Professions of Faith & False Leaders leading us down a road of destruction. An Age of Wickedness; Violence, Crime, Lawlessness everywhere, in FL, LA & TX police shooting people & people shooting police, Protests getting out of hand, Killing of the French people celebrating Independence & the Failed Coup in Turkey. An Age of War, Jesus said you would hear of wars & rumors of war, the fight against ISIS, Islamic Fundamentalists who want to kill all non-believers, especially Christians. The fight for & against terrorism is involving the whole world, as political leaders jockey for position.
But the next world-wide event on the prophetic calendar will be a Middle East War, whether the Psalm 83 War & the attack on Israel or the Gog-Magog War (Ezekiel 38-39) where Russia & Iran (biblical Persia) attack Israel, which sets up the rise of the Ant-Christ & a 7 year Peace Treaty with Israel. The signing of the 7 year Peace Treaty marks the beginning of the Tribulation.
But before that happens, before the Anti-Christ rises to power, We’re Outta Here! For us, the next biblical event is the Rapture. The Return of Christ is not dependent on world events, but Soon! (Matt 24:36)

    Carol's Notes

I was doing good with my daily routine of walking in Reynolds Park when a bad reaction to some medication zapped all my energy and I just didn’t feel like walking. Even when I started feeling stronger, I found it difficult to get back on track. Knowing my annual beach trip was coming soon, I decided I better “get with the program” so I’d be ready for all the walking we do on the beach, both for exercise and pleasure. I started walking on our street for 20-30 minutes each morning. When I take my walk, our dog, Smokey, is already outside in his part of the yard staked out on his 20’ lead. On one section of my walk, he can see me and he stands wagging his tail, hoping I will go get him and take him with me. Once out of his sight he begins to bark, expressing his displeasure at being left behind. If I go back and scold him he quits barking. As I walk out of his sight, he starts again. One morning, I grabbed the newspaper out of the box and the next time by I popped it on my leg and severely scolded him. As I walked out of sight, I did not hear any barking, but you won’t believe what I saw my next time by that area. Smokey was sitting with his back to the street and he never moved a muscle as I walked past. He turned his back on me, the one who feeds him, walks him, takes care of him and allows him to sleep on my bed. The nerve of him!
With that picture in my mind as I walked on by, the title and opening words of a song came to mind - “My God Has Never Turned His Back on Me”.

My God has never turned His back on me.
When I was lost in sin, Jesus took me in.
My God has never left me feeling sad.
Sorrows may press me down, love in Him I’ve found.
He’s a rock in a weary land I’ve found.
A pillow to lay my head on.
He’s an ocean of love to sail through life:
What a wonderful Savior I’ve found,
My God has never let the sun go down in my life
Though clouds may dim the sky, the sun still shines up high,
Oh, yes, my God has never turned His back on me.

Aren’t we glad that though we walk away or turn our back on Him, that He stands with arms open wide to forgive us, receive us and give us a new beginning. We are truly blessed that He is our Rock to stand on, Everlasting Arms to lean on and our Protector, hiding us in the cleft of the rock and covering us with His hands.
Ya’ll have an amazing August and, as always...KEEP SINGING!
