From the Pastor’s Desk!

40 Days of Prayer!

We have just finished 40 Days of Prayer. We prayed for the Church, the Leaders & the Ministries of our Church. We prayed for God's Presence, God's Power, God's Will & for God to speak to us. After spending time with God in prayer, what is God saying?
God is at work in our Church, Hes working all around us, seeking a personal relationship with everyone. God wants us to become involved with Him in His work, to be "On-Mission" with Him in our community, as well as around the world. In order to join Him where He is already working, we have to Look around to see what He is doing & we have to Listen for His Voice. God Speaks to us by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, Prayer, Circumstances & the Church to reveal Himself, His Purposes & His Ways. When God Speaks, we had better Listen.
People question whether God still speaks today, or question How God speaks to us. How God speaks to us is not as important as Hearing God speak. God can speak through natural calamities, crises, or circumstances in our life. We know God speaks through His Word, in our Prayer time & during our Worship. God speaks to us to show us Who He is; Almighty God, the Great I AM, & Why He is doing things His Way, the only Way. When God spoke to the people in times past, they knew it was God & they knew what He wanted them to do. When God speaks to us, we need to Listen & then Respond to Him. And our Answer should be Yes, Lord, Yes!
After spending 40 Days with God in Prayer, what is God Saying? God always speaks for a Reason, whether to simply Reveal Himself to us, or to show us what He is doing & what He Wants us to do. We need to Respond to God, to "Trust & Obey"!

    Carol's Notes

After planning for months to return to Oak Island, NC, for our "girl's week" at the beach, we got to the week before we were to leave only to find out that Hurricane Arthur would be passing by Oak Island just a few days before our arrival. We envisioned the water being very stirred up and rough and the beach littered with seaweed. Much to our surprise the water was very calm when we went down to the beach our first day there. The only thing the beach was littered with was thousands of shells, most of them just broken pieces. Nearly everyday I would look for shells to bring home to add to my small collection. Naturally, I wanted shells that were whole and brightly colored. Im so glad, however, that I took the time to pick up some of those broken pieces. Some of the most unusual colors I saw were in those broken shells. It was fun to imagine what an entire shell might have looked like. I would take those broken pieces back to our canopy on the beach and show them to the girls, but when we left the beach I would leave those broken pieces behind, taking with me only the whole shells. One day when I put those broken pieces back in the sand, I thought of the words to a song that Broken sings. I was reminded how glad I am that the Lord doesn't throw us away in our brokenness like I did those shells. Aren't we glad that we can place our broken lives in His able hands and He will make us whole and new? Thank you Lord for the storm that washed those beautiful, broken pieces of shell on that shore to remind me of Your love.
I'm looking forward to the music from the choir this month. Weve chosen August as "choir" favorites month. We're going back and get some of our very favorite anthems from years past to sing each Sunday. Were having lots of fun in rehearsal freshening up these old anthems and remembering why they are our favorites. We'll close the month with a 5th Sunday Sing to include a few more favorites from the choir and some of our favorites from Bobby Carter and Broken. Come join us in worship as we raise our voices in praise.
Y'all have an awesome August and, as always....KEEP SINGING!

"40 Days of Prayer"
2 Chronicles 7:14

80% of the churches in America today are plateaued or declining, over 200,000 churches. Most established Churches today are growing older, growing smaller & having less influence in their community. 4,000 churches close their doors every year, 3,500 people leave the church every day & there is one-half the number of churches today than 100 years ago. We need a Revival!
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God gives 4 Requirements for Revival. "If My people will Humble ourselves (like a child before His Father), and Pray (simply talking with God), and Seek His Face (not settling for His Blessings, but seeking Him), and Repent (Turn from our wicked ways, traditions, etc.)". Jesus said, "Remember, Repent & Return to your 1st Love."
However, there is only 1 Requirement for Prayer- Brokenness. Humble ourselves before God, as a sinful man before a Holy God. Davids Psalm (Psalm 51) shows Confession of Sin, begging for Forgiveness & asking for Restoration. There can be no Restoration without Repentance. Isaiah saw the Lord (Isaiah 6), & cried out, "Woe am I, I am a sinful man." David said, "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear." (Psalm 66:18)
Pray for Revival - that God will change our Church, He will change us Christians. Pray Passionately, expecting God to Hear & Answer us. Pray Purposely, be specific ask God, but expect Him to answer. Pray Patiently, knowing God will answer, but continue to pray, for 40 Days. We Need a Revival, from the Pulpit to the Pew!

"You have not, because you ask not. You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss." (James 4:2-3) "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you." (Matt 7:7) "If My people, who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and Pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14)

August Mission Emphasis

Your giving through the Cooperative Program supports ministries like these!

August 3: Brandon & Lori - Kosovo
Today we pray for Brandon & Lori (not their real names), who serve in Kosovo which is a Muslim country that used to be part of Yugoslavia, in Eastern Europe. Because missionaries are not allowed in Kosovo, Brandon & Lori have setup several businesses that let them stay in the country so they can share their faith & slowly start churches among the Kosovar people. We thank God that this brave couple is willing to live their lives among the Kosovar people, so that they can hear the gospel. We pray that God will give a rich harvest of souls in return.

August 10: Gus Agostino Family Life Church of Aylett (VA)
Today we pray for Family Life Church of Aylett. Since its inception, Family Life of Aylett has seen many lives transformed by the power of the Gospel & now averages over 100 in Sunday worship attendance. It is the fastest-growing & one of the largest churches in King William County. Pastor Gus is quick to testify that the amazing things that have happened in Aylett are all because of Gods incredible & marvelous grace.

August 17: Daniel & Evelyn Smith Brampton, Ontario, Canada
Our missionaries we're praying for today are Daniel & Evelyn Smith. They are starting a church in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, just north of Buffalo, NY. The Smiths are starting a new church seeking to reach people from around the world who live in this sprawling urban area around Toronto. More churches are urgently needed; at present there is only one church for every 117,212 people. We pray that God will work through the Smiths & the new church to bring many Canadians to faith in Jesus Christ.

August 24: William & Georgia Southeast Asia
Today we pray for William & Georgia (not their real names) who serve in a country in Southeast Asia that is so dangerous they cannot be named. For 30 years William was a pastor & Georgia was a nurse in the US; but in 2006 God called them to a new home in Asia. Georgia uses her nursing skills in a clinic to meet physical needs while William focuses on bringing spiritual well-being. They have started many new house churches & have seen many people pray to receive salvation. Today we thank God for the ministry William & Georgia are doing in our churchs name in Asia.

August 31: Miguel Hampton Roads Fellowship, Newport News, VA
Miguel was a lieutenant stationed in nearby Norfolk when our nation was attacked on 9/11/2001. Though he didnt realize it at the time, God was creating within him a love for the Hampton Roads area, which He would later use to birth a new church. Hampton Roads Fellowship is being sponsored by the churches of the SBC of VA along with 2nd Baptist Church of Springfield, MO. Miguel wrote in a letter, "Your partnership in this work has been a confirmation from the Lord of His calling on my life to plant this church. Thank You."
