From the Pastor’s Desk!

That 1st Easter morning, the 3 women came to the Tomb. An earthquake occurred & they found an angel sitting on the stone which had been rolled away from the tomb. The Earthquake occurred so God could get our attention. The Stone was rolled away so we could get in, not let Him out. The Angel said, “Come & See, but Go & Tell the Good News.” What is the Good News?
The Good News is the Tomb is Empty! The Angel told the women, “He’s Not Here, He Arose just like He said.” “Come, See the place where He was.” God keeps His Promises. The women came looking for a Dead Savior, they found an Empty Tomb. We need to Look beyond the Cross, & the Grave. The Tomb is Empty, our Savior Lives.
The Good News is Jesus is Alive! He has Risen from the Grave. Instead of a Dead Savior, the women found a Living Lord. Now there was No Doubt, Jesus is Lord! Without the Resurrection there is No Hope, no Life after Death. Without the Resurrection there is No Salvation, no Heaven. Jesus is Alive; because He Lives, so shall we.
The Good News is Jesus is Lord! There is Victory over Death. The Angel said, “Go & Tell the Good News!” The women left Rejoicing to tell of the Living Lord. “He’s Alive! He’s Alive! He’s Alive & I’m Forgiven, Heaven’s gates are open wide.” The Resurrection proved Jesus is God, the Great I AM still Lives. The Resurrection proved He keeps His Promises, He Promised the Disciples, “I will Arise.” Jesus is Lord, He’s the only One to conquer Death.
The question is, “Are You Coming or Going?” Are You Seeking a Crucified Christ or Sharing a Living Lord? If still Looking, then Come & See for yourself. If you have found Him, & an Empty Tomb, then Go & Tell; Tell everyone, Jesus is Alive! The Good News is the Tomb is Empty, Jesus is Alive & He is Lord! “Because He Lives.”

    Carol's Notes

Last summer my daughter and I both read a book entitled “The Shack”. Just a few days ago we enjoyed a mother/daughter day with lunch and seeing the new movie, “The Shack.” Now, before you lecture me about all the things in the movie that are not biblical, just remember it is a movie based on a fictional novel. I will tell you, however, that I’m extremely glad I saw the movie. In the darkness of the theatre I reached for a pen and paper to jot down some quotes from the movie that spoke to me. Let me share one of them with you.
First, think with me about circumstances or events that left a mark on your life. My life was marked with a heritage of faith because of the family into which I was born. I had parents who loved and served the Lord and have two older brothers who continue to live out their faith and their calling to serve Him.
Joy left a mark on my life when I became a mother. Oh, I had all the same fears and frustrations as any parent but with God’s help lived through their teenage years and we came out the other side still loving each other. What incredible joy to see them grow and mature and now have families of their own.
That brings the mark of incredible delight left on my life by my grandchildren. Six special children (1 boy/5 girls) who have brought incredible joy, laughter and hope into my life. They’ve kept me busy going to birthday parties, sporting events, band concerts, church choir programs, graduations and even traveling to Italy to visit when Michael and his family lived there (what a sacrifice!). How much richer is my life because I invested in their lives.
My life was forever marked with meaning and purpose when I walked through the door of our church in 1984. Just prior to that time my life had been scarred by the pain of divorce but God led me to a place where that hurt would heal and a place of service was waiting for me. God also put my future husband within the walls of our church because it was here I met Bill.
Needless to say my life has been forever marked by cancer. As we were so powerfully reminded by Julie and Sherry on Women’s Sunday, I, too, can confidently say “God’s got this.” I don’t have to fear tomorrow because God is already there. Get the picture? Circumstances from devastating to delightful mark our lives every day.
As we approach the Easter season and the events in our Savior’s life from the triumphal entry to the resurrection, let’s remember the marks left on His body from the crown of thorns, the beating, the nails and the sword that pierced His side. He endured all of that to purchase our redemption. For those of us who claim the name of Christ, our lives are forever marked by His forgiveness, grace and mercy. As the quote from the movie says, “Love always leaves a mark.”
Have an awesome April, enjoy the newness and refreshing that spring brings and, as always, KEEP SINGING!
